Critical to any success in Senior Living is a well synced leadership team. This doesn’t happen overnight and the efforts are continuous. However difficult it may be to sync up, it is imperative for a community, in particular a start up community to succeed.
Among the Leadership Team, Administrators, Clinical Leaders and Sales Leaders especially have a unique dependence on each other when filling up occupancy of a senior living community. Administrators are ultimately the end all decision makers and drivers, however Clinical Leaders and Sales Leaders have a significant role influencing the communities success.
The Administrator is the leader of the pack with well defined occupancy and budget goals that must be met for the community to thrive. In collaboration with Sales Leaders and with clear direction for Clinical Leaders, they can attain this goal. But how hard is it to get these key roles in sync? Much more than one might expect.
Let’s explore. Clinical Leaders are entrusted with maintaining the health and well being of the residents who live within the community. This responsibility is not taken lightly, nor should it be. However, at times it can also cause strain and fear to accept new residents when unsure about meeting a prospective residents needs. Sales Leaders are driven to meet occupancy goals. More So they are eager to share the communities unique story with future residents and families, building trust in the community to deliver on promised services. The conflict occurs when these two instrumental leaders are not in sync. When their goals don’t line up or they simply do not understand how dependent they are on each other for success.
For example, A Sales Leader cannot succeed with move in’s if the Clinical Leader denies care can be provided for a prospective resident. Equally dependent, the Clinical Leader cannot hire and/or retain care staff if there are little or no residents to care for.
To bring them in sync, successful leadership teams understand the community strengths and limitations. They are also clear on the driving goals of the community as a whole. By obtaining this knowledge and respecting the importance of each role, these teams proceed with a clear direction reducing their risk of future conflicts.
The Administrator holds the key to this congruent relationship with clear concise communication. The Administrator sets the tone, shares the vision and can be the clear communicator in how it takes all roles to reach success.
Administrators: Be the advocate for your communities success. Be the bridge that lines up the vision by helping others to understand their interdependent roles. Bring harmony to the leadership teams and lead the community to a thriving success!
